Sprinkle History 101: Sprinkles were first invented over 300 years ago. Just like with our pretzels, they were used to give color and texture to festive desserts – especially to large, edible centerpieces at lavish dinner parties in France.
Fast forward a couple hundred years, and in the 1920s Sam Born invented chocolate sprinkles and jimmies – right here in Brooklyn. Who knew our favorite borough had so much rich sprinkle history?
Well, after some digging, it turns out the Brooklyn history might be less than true -chocolate sprinkles were actually invented in the Netherlands in the 1930s. But since we’re bringing the sprinkle back to BK, we’re not too heartbroken over the legacy.
