Q&A with the Dessert Bar Queen: Amy Atlas

We like to think of Amy Atlas as the queen of the dessert bar. From macaron towers to toffee apple crumbles to personalized chocolate bars and chocolate covered pretzels (obvs!), Amy has the dessert bar concept on lockdown. Just from scoping the dessert bars on her website, it’s celebs and Bar Mitzvah boys alike that love her. (I mean, have you seen her work for Ben Stiller? It’s pretty much the best thing ever. Check out the Fatty Sundays in there, too!) We couldn’t help but pick Amy’s brain on all things sweet.

Q: You have one hour to put together a dessert bar. What’s your go-to?
A: An hour?! Oh boy. I would run to Economy candy. I would buy a large variety of candy but keep it all monochromatic. Then I’d do a simple dessert bar with different size glass jars. Then I would use wrapping paper that I have as a runner for the table.

Q: What’s your favorite hostess gift to give?
A: Anything homemade. I love to bring a homemade pie to someone and include a card with the recipe for them.

Q: What would be your dream pretzel flavor?
A: Anything chocolate and peanut butter!

Q: What’s the most unusual/unique request you’ve received?
A: A client once asked if we could design a floating dessert table!

Q: What’s the one thing that everyone should avoid serving in their own dessert bars?
A: Anything that colors your teeth and anything with peanuts (especially at kids parties.)
